What is PAES?
The Practical Assessment Exploration System (PAES®) is a hands-on curriculum with an embedded assessment of employment potential. Students work as employees in a simulated workplace, completing up to 264 jobs across five career components while supervisors record standardized data.
Who is PAES for?
PAES is designed for students in special education and works in middle school, high school and adult transition programs. It is customizable to a student's age and level of need, and job subtasks give scaffolded support when needed.
How does PAES help with Indicator 13?
PAES provides age-appropriate transition assessment, baseline data for present levels, interest and aptitude data for postsecondary goals, and ongoing soft-skills data each year. Those are the elements Indicator 13 reviews look for.
What reports does PAES produce?
With PAES Scan, reports include the Summary of Performance, progress reports, Transition Summary, Transition Objectives and workplace soft-skills reports.
What's included with a new PAES Lab?
The curriculum, equipment for all five components, shelving, a heavy-duty workbench, a first-year PAES Scan license, lab unpacking and one-day on-site training, plus shipping within the continental U.S.
How much space does a PAES Lab need?
Plan for about 25 feet of wall space for shelving, a sink with hot and cold water, around 10 electrical outlets, counter-height and standard work tables, 2–4 computers, 2–4 tablets and internet access.
How much does a PAES Lab cost?
Pricing depends on the package you choose and on whether you're buying a new lab or upgrading an existing one. Contact Megan for a formal quote for your district.
How can we pay for a PAES Lab?
Districts commonly use IDEA Part B, Perkins V, Pre-ETS partnerships with vocational rehabilitation, grants or a mix. PAES Productions is a sole source provider, which simplifies purchasing.
Can we upgrade an older PAES Lab?
Yes. The 2024 upgrade adds new materials for 50+ jobs, revised job cards, digital manuals and the PAES Scan app, without replacing the equipment you already own.
Can we see a PAES Lab before buying?
Yes. There are 163+ PAES Labs in Georgia and Florida. Use the Find a Lab map and Megan will arrange a tour with a nearby host site.
